As you are no doubt aware, UVSC will be changing to UVU in less than four months and already folks around campus are feeling the growing pains. The big question on everyone's mind is what do we call the campus in the interim. Nothing is official until July 1st of course, but you may have noticed a number of on-campus entities are already using the new UVU logos on everything from posters to bus ads.
We can say with some certainty that for the next few years folks will still call the school UVSC. It took a while for UVSC to catch on when it switched from UVCC. What we hope happens is that people don't freak out about this. There is nothing worse than getting corrected by someone saying "Uh, actually it is called UVU now".
UVSC or UVU...does it really matter all that much? Slowly people will refer to it as Utah Valley University. Actually we kinda hope that "The V" catches on. Salt Lake has "The U" and Provo has The Y" so why can't Orem have "The V"?
In the meantime, to all you branding police (deputized by college marketing or otherwise), it is fine to be vigilant on the usage of new logos and colors and whatnot. But when it comes to casual conversation, let UVSC slip by unchecked. Let's be the laid back university that doesn't care what you call it...just keep the funding coming.

www.uvu.edu is up and running
But don't get too excited, there isn't much there just yet...just a countdown clock and the Sgt. Peppers Sequel Cover. The word on the street is that www.uvu.edu will be fully operational in January...that way those students applying for Fall 2008 will have a seamless UVU experience.

New logos are ready for your disapproval
Surveys were e-mailed today to selected folks asking for opinions on the top choices for new UVU logos...And in The Pipeline's humble opinion, they all looked awful.
Now we would love to post the screen captures we nabbed during the survey...but chances are the College Marketing department would go crazy. All of the logos say things like "not for distribution". And we would love to provide a link to the online survey...but it is tied to the e-mail adddress it was sent to, and can only be completed once.
Chances are we will all get to see these monstrosities soon enough. We can say that all four of the main designs looked like Rare Method (the designers hired for the redesign) were trying really hard to make the letters UVU do cutesy little things (like the negative space make the shape of Utah). One design was so convoluted that it was barely readable. Another one looked like a rip off of West Virginia's logo. All of them featured a boxy font that looked a lot like the firm's designs for Murray City.
The survey said not to pay attention to colors, as the colors were not finalized yet. But the colors that were used were awful...including a baby vomit green, and even a dark blue that looked like it belonged on a Cougar.
The sports logos were slightly better...with one design looking a lot like Rare Method's design for the Utah Blaze. They even redesigned the Wolverine logo (commonly known as "The Creature"). On the survey they asked if the current logo was better...but if the school's colors are going to change, then chances are the current Creature has got to change too. Their new wolverine is neon green for some reason.
All in all, the choices were very disappointing. Our advice is to start hoarding UVU gear now before this ugly crap hits the shelves.

"Honey...It's Ronnie Price on the phone for you!"
We found an amazing little nugget while checking out UVSC student Sam Garfield's blog. Apparently the school has former basketball star and current Jazz pine-rider Ronnie Price recording phone messages that get sent to a database of UVSC telephone numbers.
UVSC: Utah Valley Spam College
(October 11 2007)
According to Sam he got a call from Robot Ronnie on his cell phone. After the message, there was a recording that let Sam unsubscribe from the service. Funny thing is Sam...and everybody else...probably never signed up to be called in the first place.
Weird.

UVSC goes Wiki
UVSC has joined the Wiki-revolution and built its own Wiki page for anyone to look at or edit. Check it out:
http://wiki.uvsc.edu
OK...so there isn't much there. It looks like it went live just last week. And of course because it is from the college marketing folks you can bet that anything that is in the least bit disparaging will be removed post haste. But we were impressed to see that The Pipeline made it on the Current Events page.

Just Loungin'
So we are sure that all you hip kids that "surf the net" have discovered The Lounge, UVSC marketing department's laid back "place for fun stuff". Consider it a digital oasis where weary "students, faculty, staff and others" can kick back and chill.
And check it out dude...you can download wicked cool stuff like UVSC wallpapers, or watch YouTube videos made by students (careful though..."Viewer discretion is advised. Some of these films may contain material which viewers may find objectionable.")
Whoa dude...look at this. The Lounge is sporting a killer listing of blogs about UVSC. No way....they got the Equity in Education blog! SWEET! PARTY!
But where is The Pipeline you ask. Well it turns out they don't like blogs about UVSC if they don't know who is writing them. And we all know The Pipeline prides itself on its anonymity. But come on Lounge...how can you deny us a place on your glorious list when we have enriched the lives of literally tens of people? Do the right thing and add The Pipeline. After all....we link to you.
PS: You can always find videos and all the other UVSC blogs right here, and yes we even have those pimps from Equity in Education!
