UVSC Athletic Director Mike "A.D. for Life" Jacobsen has been trying to drum up a million dollars for a track facility for the school's track team for the past three years. But unlike the team itself he has had little success.
UVSC track facility still a work in progress (Daily Herald, April 1 2008)
So in the meantime The Wolverines will be doing their running at Mountain View High School, providing plenty of fodder for Zoobies who think the college itself is little more than Utah Valley High School.

New leads in murder case of UVSC Hockey coach
It has been over a week since UVSC assistant hockey coach Ken Dolezsar, and his killer is still on the loose. But Sandy police have some "good and promising" leads in the case.

New logos are ready for your disapproval
Surveys were e-mailed today to selected folks asking for opinions on the top choices for new UVU logos...And in The Pipeline's humble opinion, they all looked awful.
Now we would love to post the screen captures we nabbed during the survey...but chances are the College Marketing department would go crazy. All of the logos say things like "not for distribution". And we would love to provide a link to the online survey...but it is tied to the e-mail adddress it was sent to, and can only be completed once.
Chances are we will all get to see these monstrosities soon enough. We can say that all four of the main designs looked like Rare Method (the designers hired for the redesign) were trying really hard to make the letters UVU do cutesy little things (like the negative space make the shape of Utah). One design was so convoluted that it was barely readable. Another one looked like a rip off of West Virginia's logo. All of them featured a boxy font that looked a lot like the firm's designs for Murray City.
The survey said not to pay attention to colors, as the colors were not finalized yet. But the colors that were used were awful...including a baby vomit green, and even a dark blue that looked like it belonged on a Cougar.
The sports logos were slightly better...with one design looking a lot like Rare Method's design for the Utah Blaze. They even redesigned the Wolverine logo (commonly known as "The Creature"). On the survey they asked if the current logo was better...but if the school's colors are going to change, then chances are the current Creature has got to change too. Their new wolverine is neon green for some reason.
All in all, the choices were very disappointing. Our advice is to start hoarding UVU gear now before this ugly crap hits the shelves.

"Honey...It's Ronnie Price on the phone for you!"
We found an amazing little nugget while checking out UVSC student Sam Garfield's blog. Apparently the school has former basketball star and current Jazz pine-rider Ronnie Price recording phone messages that get sent to a database of UVSC telephone numbers.
UVSC: Utah Valley Spam College
(October 11 2007)
According to Sam he got a call from Robot Ronnie on his cell phone. After the message, there was a recording that let Sam unsubscribe from the service. Funny thing is Sam...and everybody else...probably never signed up to be called in the first place.
Weird.

Status of the transition
With the July 1st deadline looming, folks at UVSC are scrambling to get all things university in order.
UVSC transition under way
School will officially become a university on July 1, 2008
(Deseret Morning News, September 28 2007)
There are a lot of things that need fixin' on campus, just check out the comments section in the article above and you'll find folks bitchin' about things like the Math Department and student services. And how can you blame them?
But the best part of the article was this little nugget from our friends in the Athletics:
"Basically, our response is, we're ready to go through Division I transition," said Megan Kennedy, an assistant athletic director, explaining how UVSC is in its fifth of six years of provisional Division I status with the NCAA.
First of all, the move from college to university has nothing to do with the NCAA or Division I status. UVSC could start a Ph.D program tomorrow and it wouldn't change the fact that the school is not in a conference, and it is no closer to getting in a conference than it was five years ago.
Much like a certain war, UVSC Athletics has never come up with an exit strategy for when it fails to get into a conference next year. Will the school continue to be an independent? Can it afford to operate without conference funding, not to mention a far-flung travel schedule? Will fans support a team that will never develop rivalries with other conference schools? Will athletes sign scholarship agreements knowing that they have little to no chance of participating in national championships?
Yet the Athletic department says "We are ready!"

UVSC Website gets all artsy fartsy
Last week you may have noticed (especially if you are one of those nerds that notices things) that UVSC's main splash page has added a link that says "The Arts". Here is where it links to:
www.uvsc.edu/arts
This new page puts all of UVSC's arts in one place. Kind of cool. We hear there has already been some grumbling about the change...could it be that Athletics doesn't like giving up valuable real estate?

Even when you don't have a football team, you can still argue about football
If you are feeling a little more socially responsible lately it is probably because it is Ethics Week at UVSC. And with all the contentious ethical issues out there nothing gets people riled up faster than football.
2 UVSC profs deem BCS unethical
(Deseret Morning News, September 20 2007)
Maybe its just UVSC's way of extending an olive branch to all the Cougars and Utes out there, but professors Dennis Farnsworth and Jon Moore say that the schools in the Mountain West Conference should join other disgruntled athletic conferences and file an antitrust lawsuit against the Bowl Championship Series.
